How to Get Cheap Truck Insurance

Trucks are great for hauling stuff but aren’t so great for insurance because it generally costs more to insure trucks than cars. Why does truck insurance cost more, and how can you find cheap truck insurance?
Why is Truck Insurance More Costly?
Trucks cost more to insure than cars for four main reasons:
* Drivers of trucks, as a whole, don’t have great driving records. So while you may be accident and ticket free (and make sure you get a discount for that), you’re still going to be paying for the mistakes of other truck drivers.
* Trucks cost more than cars, so the insurance costs more too, just in case the insurance company has to replace your truck.
* Trucks are big and heavy. In an accident, they tend to inflict more damage on smaller vehicles and more injuries to the occupants of those vehicles. If the accident is your fault, that’s more money from your insurance company.
* Trucks are stolen more often than cars.
Finding Cheap Truck Insurance
The good news is that you can find cheap truck insurance. It helps if you buy the right truck: one that has a good safety record and isn’t a prime target of thieves. This information is available online or you can check with your insurance professional.
You can also save on truck insurance by comparison shopping among insurance companies. Truck insurance quotes vary widely from one insurance company to another, but you can easily get multiple quotes from A-rated insurance companies.

it depends on many things. I had an big old ford truck. the truck itself wasnt worth much, but it would cause a lot of damage to a car if i got in an accident so that made my insurance higher
insurance is also higher on 4x4s, bigger engines, value of the vehicle, etc.
i would think a smaller truck would be cheaper but itd be best to just ask your insurance company
as far as gas mileage goes, a toyota is only gonna give you better gas mileage if you get the 4cyl engine. however, even with the 4cyl, your only gonna get about 17-18 in the city
the toyota 3.0 v6 engine gets about 15 city, whereas chevy trucks get about the same.
you might be giving up a little big of mileage in the chevy, but they make it up in horsepower and torque
It all depends on the insurance company that you have, where you live, your age, and your driving experience. I upgraded to a truck, and my insurance stayed the same. The only way to truely find out is to call your insurance company. They can tell you if it will raise…and the quote they give you will be free!! Remember though….rates change all the time. If you don't like the rate they give you, call a few other places. Insurance companies rate different vehicles quite differently. Be smart! It is a good idea to shop for cheaper insurance every four months….you could save yourself hundreds of dollars a year!
If you only drive the older truck a short distance for home repair reasons I would go with the newer car and the older truck. The newer truck is going to cost more in the long run than the newer car and the cost of the older truck as long as it is paid for and you are not paying hefty repair bills, is minimal.

Well, there's no "cheap insurance" for tow trucks, not even in TX. Most insurance companies won't write that kind of coverage at all.
You'll have to call a few local, independent agents (not me, please, I don't like writing tow trucks) for quotes.
